Director’s Statement

There is one essential element that I believe is at the core of every fine film and that is when the characters struggle with the contradictions inside themselves. No one in this life is either all 'good' or all 'bad'. We watch the competing forces within characters with self-identifying fascination. Those contradictions not only drive the drama and structure of the film they also make the characters inherently compelling and salient.

The Sweet Taste of Freedom is the story of Errol Cornwall, a man who has existed on both sides of the law. He has done battle with the dual forces of both rage and fear most of his life. He now finds himself in a rusting America faced with what he believes to be his last days of freedom. Having missed so many of the essential moments in life Errol realizes he has a handful of hours to try to redeem himself in the eyes and hearts of his daughter and sister, the two people who despite all odds still love him.
